This is a full-time, 12 month position in our Development Office. The Associate Director of Development assists with the institutional advancement of The Avery Coonley School in support of its mission statement and philosophy. The Associate Director of Development is responsible primarily for all aspects of fundraising databases and gift processing, coordinates annual giving and donor recognition activities, and supports the school’s special events and Development Office initiatives.
In partnership with the Director of Development, coordinate and implement ACS’s annual giving program, including identifying and soliciting lapsed and current donors as well as new prospects, retaining and upgrading donors, increasing giving participation rates and totals, and facilitating matching gifts.
Educate closest constituencies on importance of annual giving to ACS.
Recruit and support volunteers to serve as annual giving liaisons.
Prepare high quality development and stewardship materials.
Plan and implement donor stewardship and recognition activities.
Assist in identifying major gift prospects and assist Director of Development with cultivation and solicitation strategy.
Assist in supporting parent volunteer events/activities.
Serve as primary manager for development databases.
Responsible for all aspects of gift entry, donor acknowledgement, and reporting (including gift reconciliation, annual audit and annual reports).
Add and update constituent records, globally and individually.
Establish and maintain guidelines for all aspects of data entry, monitor the database regularly to ensure data integrity.
Collaborate with staff to ensure appropriate collection and sharing of data between multiple school systems.
Process all online transactions for the school and reconcile transactions with Business Office.
Serve as a member of the School’s Development Office team:
Act as the first point of contact for the Development Office.
Establish/maintain a positive working relationship with faculty, staff, parents, students, and other closest constituencies.
Responds to requests in a manner that provides value and satisfaction for the school and community members.
Provide support for department activities, including volunteer-led events.
Assists with the school’s special events including the annual auction, manages the auction database and website.
Acts as back up for Director of Development when needed.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Development in support of the school and its leadership.
Education and experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Three years work experience in a development capacity in an education or non-profit environment
Significant experience and success in organizing and managing volunteers, preferably in a fundraising context
Proven data management abilities including data entry, query design, import, export and report production
Familiarity with independent schools
Skills and ability
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to establish and build positive working relationships within the ACS Community, including faculty, staff, parents, students, alumni, and donors
Friendly, approachable, and collegial demeanor with a commitment to maintaining a positive environment for employees and volunteers
Strong organization and analytical skills including keen attention to detail
Demonstrate sensitivity, good judgment and discretion with confidential materials and in working with volunteers and donors
Ability to anticipate needs, initiate planning and follow through with minimal direction and supervision
Demonstrate ability to prioritize and manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge
Strong understanding of integration of information technology and information management
