The Community Organizer is responsible for our Re-Entry Committee initiatives, which brings together adults who are returning from incarceration and impacted by homelessness, to change policies and laws which will create access to affordable housing and remove barriers to employment. In addition, this position will work in shelters to support CCH’s city and statewide strategic organizing campaigns.
Chicago Coalition for the Homeless is a 38-year old systemic advocacy organization. CCH develops campaigns and initiatives to address the causes of homelessness - lack of affordable housing, lack of access to health care and services and lack of jobs paying a living wage. We place much emphasis on organizing and developing leaders within the homeless population to become spokespersons and leaders of our various initiatives. CCH does its work in accordance with its organizational values – collaboration, integrity, strategic action, compassion, and intersectionality.
Staffing and maintaining the Re-Entry committee
Establish a base of shelter programs
Working in coalition with campaign partners
Build strong relationships with grassroots leader residing in the shelters
Developing leaders in all of the above bases
Assisting with community organizing training
Other duties as assigned
We’re seeking candidates who excel in relationship-building and collaboration, are results-oriented, who want to build power, and have strong project management skills.
Basic understanding of community organizing
Strong interpersonal skills
Experience working with diverse populations
Basic computer skill
Demonstrated ability to stay on task and meet deadlines and goals
Experience as both a trainer and supervising interns a plus.
Salary range : $36,000 - $38,000, depending on experience. Excellent benefits, including health, four weeks paid vacation, and a sabbatical program.
