About WAUKEGAN TO COLLEGE NFP
W2C is a nonprofit organization located in Waukegan, Illinois, whose mission is to create brighter futures for students, families and communities by preparing students to enroll in and graduate from college. We are creating a college-going culture within an at-risk population with high poverty, low literacy, and low college attainment. With the help of volunteers, staff and the community, W2C is putting families on a path to higher education and out of poverty. These families are not familiar with the college-going process but dream of sending their children to college. W2C works intensively with parents and students through monthly advising and workshops. Students, starting as young as fifth grade, receive one-on-one academic assistance through weekly tutoring, reading coaching, and math enrichment sessions. Founded in 2009, W2C has helped 45 first-generation students earn college degrees.
