Resilience (formerly Rape Victim Advocates) is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the healing and empowerment of sexual assault survivors through non-judgmental crisis intervention counseling, individual and group trauma therapy, and medical and legal advocacy in the greater Chicago metropolitan area. Resilience provides public education and institutional advocacy in order to improve the treatment of sexual assault survivors and to effect positive change in policies and public attitudes toward sexual assault. Established in 1974, Resilience now serves over 2000 survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones annually through our main office in downtown Chicago and our community-based offices in Austin, Ravenswood, and on the Stroger Hospital campus.
GENERAL ROLE DESCRIPTION
The Development Associate works directly with the Director of Development engaging in fundraising and development activities that sustain and enhance the mission of the organization. The Development Associate helps the Director meet the organization’s annual fundraising goals and strategic initiatives as they relate to fundraising. The Development Associate plays an integral role in day-to-day development operations, individual donor, corporate and foundation relations, board management, event management, database management and intern management. In addition, the Development Associate provides the Director of Finance and Administration and Office Manager with administrative support for the organization as needs arise. This is a non-exempt, full time position.
Individual, Foundation, and Corporate Donor Cultivation/Stewardship
Assist the Director of Development in creating and coordinating all appeals, campaigns, and mailings
Segment, develop, and implement acquisition, solicitation, and stewardship for individual and corporate donors
Implement an impeccable donor acknowledgement process consistent with development department policies and procedures
Conduct prospect research on individuals, foundations, and corporations
Engage with donors and prospects as requested by the Director of Development
Assist with the development and implementation of department practices, policies, and procedures
Assist as appropriate with the creation, development, and printing of collateral materials
Serve as the primary administrator of the customer relationship management software, Salsa, ensuring data accuracy and integrity
Prepare, analyze, and interpret a variety of reports regarding fundraising outcomes, trends, and forecasts; provide standardized reporting on a monthly basis
Maintain records of grants, donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations, and special events
Train other staff on CRM
Research new grant opportunities
Write select LOIs, grant applications, and grant reports
Assist the Director of Development and event planning committee in the planning and implementation of all major fundraising events
Manage small fundraising events run by internal and external partners
Recruit, interview, train, and supervise a development intern
Assign special projects and ongoing tasks to the development intern
The Development Associate will provide back-up support for administrative staff. Tasks may include the following:
Answer, screen, and direct phone calls; forward voice mail from the general mailbox to the appropriate staff member; respond to routine phone inquiries
Receive and direct visitors and clients
Open, log, and photocopy all checks
Provide administrative and logistical support for organizational meetings
Other duties as assigned
A minimum of two years of experience in non-profit fundraising with an emphasis on CRM administration and data analysis is required – this qualification must be met in order to be considered for the position
BA/BS (or equivalent experience) in business, non-profit management, marketing or similar field strongly preferred
Exceptional time management, organizational, and project prioritization skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as in a team environment that includes cross-department coordination
Proficiency in CRM platforms, online fundraising, email marketing software, social media, and the Microsoft Office suite; experience with Salsa CRM a plus
Passion for Resilience’s mission a must; understanding of and/or experience working on women’s and/or human rights issues, or addressing sexual violence/gender-based violence strongly preferred
Completion of a minimum of 40-hours of sexual assault training by an Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault member center within 90 days of hire is required; previous completion of the training is preferred
