The Senior Director, Adult Day Services provides leadership to the Area Directors and is accountable for the day-to-day performance of programs and services provided by The Arc of San Diego’s Adult Day Centers.
Combining business acumen, relationship building and change management skills, the Senior Director effectively promotes programs in communities across San Diego County to continuously increase our clients’ integration in those communities.
In addition, this role continuously drives program alignment, adoption of best practices, and measurable outcome improvement across all Adult Day Service locations, in support of The Arc of San Diego’s goal to advance our leading position in person-centered and self-directed care in the region.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Directs and manages a multitude of simultaneous work streams and projects. Leads with a true sense of purpose with the ability to engage employees to do the right thing every time for clients and each other.
Establishes clear lines of responsibility and accountability for operations and ensures effective collaboration and sense of urgency around performance improvement.
Supports, coaches and mentors the development of the Area Directors to maximize contributions toward established goals.
Manages change in a creative and positive manner through a proactive process from conception through successful implementation. Promotes regular and ongoing opportunities for all employees to give feedback on Day Program services.
Models stewardship for the organization and partners with the President/CEO and Vice President of Operations/COO to represent the Arc of San Diego with external constituency groups, including community, governmental, and private organizations.
Markets Adult Day Programs to clients, parents, local school representatives, Regional Center and the San Diego community at large.
Builds strong, collaborative partnerships between Adult Day Service locations and with other Arc teams, community and all levels of management and staff.
Under the general direction of the Vice President of Operations, oversees the delivery of the key strategic initiatives and operational plans that drive operational quality improvement, growth and earnings, and regulatory compliance.
Drives laser focus on improving the quality and experience of programs and services for Day Program clients. Implements and leads a continuous quality improvement process throughout Day Program and service areas, focusing on community integration and process improvement. Continuously monitors the performance of each program and service through the performance reporting system and develops corrective actions as necessary, informing the Vice President of Operations of all program issues and accomplishments.
In partnership with Fund Development, researches and writes grants for Adult Day Programs.
Collaborates with internal and external partners to ensure that robust policies and procedures are maintained, risks are identified and addressed proactively, and that services are in compliance with all federal, state, funding, and city regulations, certifications, and licensing requirements.
Monitors industry and regulatory developments to identify opportunities for new program development, as well as proactive re-design of existing programs and services.
Prepares and submits an annual operational budget for the Vice President of Operations’ review and approval, manages effectively within this budget, and reports accurately on progress made and challenges encountered.
Provides programmatic leadership and input for all strategic planning processes with the Vice President of Operations and Area Directors by identifying funding and establishing facilities/programs to meet the developmentally disabled population’s needs.
Provides timely, accurate and complete reports on the operating condition of Day Programs.
Models on a daily basis the organization’s Vision, Mission and Core Values. Ensures that all program activities operate consistently and ethically within the mission and values of the Arc of San Diego.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in related field required.
Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration or related field strongly desired.
At least five (5) years of experience in an operational leadership role leading diverse work teams, developing a Center strategy for program excellence, and partnering with senior leadership teams.
Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.
Results-proven experience in engaging community partners to drive solutions.
