The relocation specialist position is a key role in TEC Services subsidized housing relocation efforts. Assists individuals and families living in subsidized housing to relocate with a Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) to private rental housing suitable to meet their needs in traditional and mobility/opportunity areas. Assists individuals and families with connections and referrals to needed resources in new communities (e.g. childcare, youth programming, school enrollments/transfers, healthcare, etc.).
Determines housing and community resource needs of clients through assessment;
Provides assistance and referrals to TEC Services existing network of partner agencies; identifies new partner agencies as needed;
Provides housing search assistance by providing housing leads, scheduling appointments to view units; transporting clients on unit tours, etc;
Assists with the recruitment of landlords into HCV program to provide units;
Serves as a liaison between the client and landlord to facilitate the application and leasing process; serve as a client advocate for housing overall;
Monitors the lease-up process such as the housing authority form completion, inspections, rent determination through lease signing; and intervenes if necessary to keep the process moving forward if possible;
Monitors client retention in housing and maintains contact for up to 60 days post-move with client;
Encourages community integration in new neighborhood by providing information on events and activities;
Work with supervisor to take complaints from clients regarding any suspected discrimination so the supervisor can refer to local fair housing agency and follow up until disposition
Maintains databases, necessary files and other documentation; and
Performs other duties as required.
Individuals must have: experience working with low-income individuals and families in a housing, social service or equivalent context; some knowledge regarding subsidized housing programs, social service provision and fair housing laws, or the ability to learn about these topics quickly through company training; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; and ability to maintain positive working relationships with landlords/owners, clients, social service agencies, and co-workers. Experience with case management software a plus.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred; however, equivalent experience is acceptable.
Possession of a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance
Flexibility with working occasional evenings and weekends.
