St. Joseph Services is seeking qualified after school youth instructors for the 2018-19 school year. Positions are available at our Humboldt Park location.
The Position: To plan and lead out of school activities; to provide classroom management and routine that creates a learning environment and to engage volunteers and guests in a manner consistent with the mission of SJS and with the objectives of the Out of School Program Major Responsibilities
Perform the role of youth instructor in a professional manner that reflects the mission, vision, and values of St. Joseph Services that contribute to making SJS a collaborative, friendly, and continually improving agency
Work with the Director of Programs and Youth Program Manager to plan and/or execute program activities
Prepare and/or teach prepared lesson plans/activities that meet individual and group needs of students consistent with the program goals and objective
Lead out of school activities
Manage the appearance of the out of school areas
In conjunction with the Manager, create open lines of communication with parents
Collect and compile data and prepare summary reports as needed.
Manage volunteers as directed by the Youth Program Manager
Assist with the Marketing of Out of School Programs
Continue professional development through classes, workshops, and seminars
Hourly: $11.00 - $13.50 per hour Part Time: M – Th; 2 pm – 5:30, F 9:30 am to 5:30 pm Location: Humboldt Park Neighborhood
Mandatory Job Qualifications
High School Diploma, 2 years post high school
2 years of experience working with elementary age children: Teaching, After School Program, and Camp Experience required.
Organizational Skills and Attention to Detail
Familiarity with local community needs and concerns
Handle multiple tasks and resolve conflicts as necessary
Be a team player and must be willing to take initiative and assume responsibility
Education Degree or Background
Additional Salary Information: 1.Salary Information: Guaranteed 22 hours per week during school year, additional hours possible during seasonal camps.
2.Hourly: $11.00 - $13.50 per hour
3.Part Time: M – Th; 2 pm – 5:30, F 9:30 am to 5:30 pm
4.Located in the Humboldt Park / Wicker Park Neighborhood (Western and North Avenues) & Austin (Central and North Avenues)

St. Joseph Services (SJS), a Vincentian Ministry, was started in 2001 when St. Joseph Hospital on Chicago’s north side was transferred to Resurrection after more than 90 years as a Daughters of Charity Ministry. The Daughters seeded SJS to work on Chicago’s west side, specifically the poverty laden communities of Humboldt Park and Austin. Today SJS focuses on educational support for students of all ages, with year round out of school time programs, adult literacy, computer literacy, and employee skills development.
