The Position: Due to anticipated growth, we have recently reassessed our staffing needs and created two positions from the former Executive Director & Curator role. We are looking for an Administrative Director who will be a strategic, entrepreneurial non-profit cultural leader to work with the Board to aggressively grow earned and contributed revenues to achieve our ambitious goals. This new position has been developed to position the organization to meet the goals in its new strategic plan. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Administrative Director will operate in a shared leadership structure with the Curator & Director of Programs, which requires compromise, trust, and equal voice. Together, you will collectively make decisions regarding the overall strategic vision, direction, and charge of the organization. Additionally, you will serve a functional, more specialized role overseeing the fundraising and membership programs, private events and rentals, and marketing. The Curator & Director of Programs will oversee the visitors services, tours, and programmatic functions.
The Administrative Director will be directly responsible to the President of the Board of Directors for carrying out the mission of Glessner House and managing its business and affairs, with such specific powers and duties as are delegated to the office of the Administrative Director by the Board. The Administrative Director shall be responsible for defining the duties of any additional staff positions that are created and for supervising the work of staff in conformance with policies and budgets established by the Board.
The Administrative Director shall spearhead Glessner House's efforts to realize its mission by expanding the organization's public outreach and support, facility operations, business development, organization management, and fundraising activities.
In concert with the Curator & Director of Programs, set overall direction for Glessner House, maintain the financial well-being of the organization, and ensure adherence to its mission, vision, and values statements.
Develop and implement Glessner House's finances, budget, business operations, and implement board directives and initiatives.
Oversee and coordinate all fundraising activities with the development manager in order to meet annual revenue goals.
Work with the Curator & Director of Programs to grow contributed revenues to fulfill budget goals.
Supervise and manage the Development Manager, Events Manager, Building Coordinator, and Bookkeeper to maintain the sustainability and excellence of the organization.
Direct all aspects of marketing and public relations activities, including social media.
Manage benefits and HR functions, and administrative procedures.
Oversee house maintenance and private event and rental program.
Manage office technology, including hardware, software, and internet.
Work closely with the President of the Board to coordinate and support Board activities and meetings.
Collaborate with board and staff to implement the existing strategic plan.
Develop and maintain external relationships in collaboration with the Curator & Director of Programs.
Experience in business development and operational management at a historic site or small nonprofit.
Strong leadership skills and effective managerial and fundraising expertise.
Working knowledge of nonprofit fiscal management.
A minimum of five years' experience supervising staff and working with a board of directors.
Proficiency at fostering relationships with organizations and individuals, locally and nationally, with whom the organization shares common interests.
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple responsibilities with grace and good humor.
Willingness to take on tasks ranging from strategic planning to changing light bulbs, and from improving operational efficiencies to setting up tables and chairs.

A National Historic Landmark, Glessner House was designed by noted American architect Henry Hobson Richardson and completed in 1887. It remains an internationally-known architectural treasure in Chicago. A radical departure from traditional Victorian architecture, the structure served as an inspiration to architects such as Louis Sullivan, Mies van der Rohe, and the young Frank Lloyd Wright and helped redefine domestic architecture.
