SUMMARY: In collaboration with the Executive Director, leads both strategic and tactical aspects of fundraising, including outreach and friend-raising, annual campaigns, major gifts, planned giving, corporate and foundation funding, fundraising events, and donor research. Oversees communications strategy and tactics including internal and external print and electronic newsletters, internal and external website design and content, and social media.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In collaboration with the Executive Director, Program Directors, and Finance Director, creates an annual budget for fundraising, including anticipated revenue and expense.
Manages annual Development Department budget, including approval of expenses related to development activities.
Develops and implements a fundraising strategy that encompasses annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, donor retention, and continual research and outreach to increase the agency’s donor base and broaden its diversity.
In collaboration with the Executive Director, develops and implements structured stewardship plans for major donors and prospective major donors to build and maintain a committed group of supporters.
Manages the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of Annual Fund individual donors.
Directs the planning and implementation of fundraising events, including an annual Gala.
Supervises donor gift processing and acknowledgement.
Develops and implements a planned giving program.
Develops and maintains a fund development calendar to ensure all applications, reports, appeals, and planned events are executed.
Manages and ensures accuracy of fundraising reporting systems and databases.
Represents the agency at appropriate community and funder meetings.
Supervises the development of compelling grant proposals to foundations, corporations, civic organizations, and faith-based organizations.
Ensures the development and maintenance of an annual grant application calendar that includes all current and prospective grants.
Ensures that all grant administrative functions, such as required program evaluation and deliverables, reporting, and stewardship, are completed on time and accurately for each funded grant.
Monitors grant budgets, program goals, and monthly performance related to grants.
Assists Program Directors as needed in the completion of government contracts and RFPs.
Outreach & Communications
Directs the production of the Annual Report, newsletters, brochures and other documents, and the use of social media to support fundraising goals.
Directs the maintenance and enhancement of the organization’s website.
Manages internal communications, including print and electronic newsletters and the maintenance and enhancement of the staff intranet.
Manages community outreach efforts with a goal of enhancing the organization’s reputation in the community, building community partnerships and engaging volunteers that support and enhance the organization’s services.
Serves as the primary staff liaison to the Fund Development Committee, with guidance from the Executive Director.
In collaboration with the Executive Director and the Fund Development Committee Chair, develops and implements a plan to increase Board members’ skills, comfort with, and involvement in fundraising.
Attends Board meetings as well as related Board Committee meetings, as needed.
Manages the work of the Development Coordinator, Volunteer & Community Partnerships Coordinator, Grants Coordinator, and Communications Coordinator.
Serves as a collaborative member of the Senior Leadership Team.
Performs other tasks as assigned by Executive Director.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A bachelor’s degree is required, plus at least 5 years working in fund development in a community-based non-profit.
Demonstrated success in developing and executing fundraising strategies and tactics, including engagement and direct solicitation of individuals, corporations, and foundations.
Experience working collaboratively with staff and volunteers, including Board and Committee members, and the ability to motivate and engage others in building financial support for the organization.
Exceptionally strong communication skills, including experience writing solicitation materials, proposals, and other strategic and tactical materials, and the ability to engage others via email, phone, or in person.
Demonstrated success in managing, coaching, and training staff.
Basic knowledge of non-profit budgeting and financial management.
Strong computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet applications. Previous experience with donor data management and reporting systems.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
The ability and desire to work collaboratively with others.
