The Director of Leadership Development will design, lead, and/or support a variety of NACSA’s adult learning opportunities. These engagements are generally geared toward day-to-day authorizing staff and span a wide range from standalone publications or webinars, to easy to access resources and toolkits, to intensive virtual cohorts and in-person leadership development programs.

Quality authorizing is essential to ensuring that charter schools can play a vital role in providing better educational opportunities to children across the country. We work to improve authorizing by building an evidence base to inform best practices among hundreds of authorizers nationwide, shape state charter policies, and develop the growing authorizing profession.
ROLE AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the execution of NACSA’s Leaders Program and state-specific expansions of the model. • Recruit and select participants on a bi-annual basis • Utilize existing best practices and research from peer institutions to lead the creation and refinement of curricula that addresses the dual goals of increasing authorizing knowledge and building leadership and management skills • Project manage all program elements including scope, sequence, presentation, facilitation, and logistics
Implement a strategy to effectively build an engaged Leaders Program alumni base. • Develop meaningful engagements to better leverage alumni group in advancing NACSA’s strategic plan • Create activities that further support the alumni group in their work and encourage retention in the sector
Design, execute, and/or support learning activities and resources to appeal to a variety of authorizing audiences. • Conceptualize, create, and deliver virtual and in-person learning opportunities that appeal to a range of learning modalities (including but not limited to webinars, trainings, and workshops) • Draw on your authorizing expertise to create easy to use authorizing tools and resources that can be easily adapted and used by authorizers across the country
Manage client-driven engagements and serve as an authorizing field expert in a variety of projects with school districts, state education agencies, and other institutions that authorize charter schools. • Use and further cultivate your authorizing expertise to support the implementation of high-quality authorizing practices • Create customized solutions that address specific client challenges and advance NACSA’s goals • Represent NACSA in client settings and present to a variety of stakeholders • Use learnings from the field to inform and develop NACSA’s knowledge base of current and emerging authorizing trends
The Director of Leadership Development will join the Authorizer Engagement & Advancement division, currently comprised of a Vice President, four Directors, an Associate Director, and a Manager of Instructional Design. S/he will report to the Director of Learning & Knowledge Management.

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university • At least two years of charter school authorizing experience • Experience designing or participating in leadership development programs

The Director will earn a salary between $90,000 and $110,000 commensurate with experience. NACSA provides an excellent benefits program with generous medical, dental, and disability coverage as well as the option to participate in a 401K matching plan.
