The Strategic Management Society, the premier association dedicated to the strategic management field and serving a mostly scholarly, international constituency, is seeking a Managing Editor. The Managing Editor is primarily responsible for managing the growing manuscript review and pre-production workflow for the Strategic Management Journal (SMJ), the world’s leading mass impact journal for research in strategic management. The role requires active participation in the further development and implementation of the journal’s communication and social media efforts.
Independently manage a comprehensive array of pre- and post-publication editorial processes for peer reviewed scholarly journal with volunteer editorial leadership
Act as first point of contact and liaison with editors, reviewers, production editors, and journal publishing managers to ensure the smooth running of the journals from submission of content to final publication
Ensure adherence to established best practices as identified by journal policies and industry organizations and ensure completion of manuscripts with all correct paperwork
Generate and/or coordinate promotion of the journals and their content for social media, website, newsletters, and other outlets
Work with Managing Editor of SMS’s other peer-reviewed journals, the Global Strategy Journal and Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, and other SMS staff to ensure coordination across SMS’s scholarly publishing program and cohesion with other SMS member services
Support additional SMS member programs and activities including membership services and conferences
Other duties as assigned
This position is envisioned as a full-time position with benefits including 24 days of paid vacation; however, SMS will also consider part-time or contractual options.
Travel: Approximately three times a year to domestic and international locations.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:
3-5 years of experience in successfully working in an academically focused environment demonstrating knowledge and understanding of scholarly publishing
Familiarity with submission/peer review systems, such as ScholarOne, database management, website content management, and the professional use of social media platforms
Ability to effectively establish relationships and collaborate on projects with a diverse group of volunteers, ability to professionally communicate with internationally renowned scholars, consultants, and business practitioners
Outstanding organizational, multi-tasking, problem-solving, and detail-oriented skills. A demonstrated commitment to quality and excellence
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment
Bachelor’s degree required
