This job listing is for you if you have a Master's degree in social work, have a passion for adoption, are a self-starter, and can stay organized.
What is an Adoption Specialist?
An adoption specialist, or adoption recruiter, is someone who works diligently to find forever homes for children in the foster care system. The primary responsibilities are to provide child specific recruitment for youth that supports life long connections. This means that you will be interacting directly with both children in the foster care system and foster care workers while you work to build up a profile for the minor in an effort to help them find their forever home.
What is special about this position?
Center for Law and Social Work has received a grant from Wendy's Wonderful Kids (WWK). You will receive training specific to WWK's child-centered recruitment approach to finding adoptive homes for children in care. You can read more about our organization's relationship with Wendy's here: http://www.clsw.org/news-wwk-grant/
What does an Adoption Recruiter do on a day to day basis?
As a member of the professional team you will work cooperatively with the youth, the youth’s worker and other significant people in the youth's life to assist in the facilitation of recruitment activities. So what exactly does that mean? It means that you will be on the phone with foster care workers and licensed families; you will be emailing back and forth with them; and you will be making in-person visits. This position will absolutely require that you stay on top of email correspondence and phone calls. You will work from the office located in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood, but be prepared for regular travel throughout the state of Illinois as you meet with foster care workers and with youth in care. This is NOT a work from home position, and you will only be considered if you have a valid driver's license and a working vehicle.
Regular supervision will be available to you, with easy access to your supervisor for questions and training, but this position requires you to be a self-motivated worker, who is comfortable creating goals and tasks for themselves.
The successful candidate will have:
An attention to detail
A tried and true ability to stay organized
Work experience in foster care and/or adoption
A personality that encourages confidence and trust
Ability to keep up with a high volume of email and phone correspondence
An ability to interact well with others and build relationships with them
Case file maintenance and review
Conduct interviews with youth
Monthly contact with assigned youth
Be able to clear a background check.
Be willing to travel both locally and within the state. Anticipate sometimes being away from home overnight.
This job absolutely requires a car, plus a valid driver's license and car insurance.
MSW required, with at least two years of child welfare experience.
CWEL license preferred
