The Philanthropy/Development Specialist at Temple Jeremiah is responsible for creating and implementing strategies that build relationships with congregational constituencies. The incumbent focuses on the following priority areas:
Engage and steward our current donors in meaningful and impactful ways.
Establish and/or facilitate processes within the current development operations.
Create new avenues for congregants to participate and engage with our culture of giving.
Duties and Responsibilities
Work with the Board Development Committee, recommending and/or improving upon appropriate development policies and procedures.
Work with professional staff and lay leadership to identify and prioritize the congregation’s philanthropic goals.
Create, implement and/or facilitate a comprehensive fundraising strategy.
Plan and/or assist in the management of all fundraising activities including annual giving, planned giving, special events and capital campaigns.
Provide support to leadership in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of those major gift prospects.
Train and/or support the professional staff and lay leaders about best practices in fundraising to involve them in the fundraising process.
Manage the recognition and stewardship of all donors.
Be willing to work evening meetings and attend all High Holy Day Services to interact with staff, congregants and guests (varying schedules accordingly, as needed).
Attend all “Open Houses”, Programming Dinners, and other major Temple events to ensure smooth operation.
3-5 years’ experience of fundraising experience in Jewish communal work or non-profit community.
A track record of successful work on major gifts and capital campaigns
Candidate must be able to assist in the design and implementation of a development program; experience building a development program from scratch is a plus.
Must have strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines with both independence and an understanding of the importance of teamwork.
Must have strong computer skills (Adobe, Office 365 and membership/fundraising databases a MUST), and the ability to learn new programs that are specific to the temple are essential.
Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills.
Warm, attentive social skills. Must be a good listener.
Excellent verbal skills and understanding of customer service.
