Chicago Lights Tutoring is seeking summer workers for our six week SUMMER DAY program!
Join Chicago Lights in one of these three positions, an off-shoot of our after school tutoring program which has been serving the youth of our community for over 50 years. Meet at our modern building just off Michigan Avenue where we provide learning and fun for six weeks to students from first through twelfth grade. Various programs provide summer learning, arts enrichment, career preparation and exploration, health and fitness, and Fridays are fun days with a field trip every week!
The programs runs June 24 through August 1 (hours vary per position), plus some paid training and planning prior to the beginning of the session:

Career Prep Facilitator
The Career Prep Project of the Chicago Lights Tutoring Program helps rising seventh through ninth grade students explore non-traditional career fields, gain financial literacy skills and aid in their transition to high school. Students participate in a series of classes and field trips tailored around career exploration, financial literacy, secondary education and more.
The Career Prep Facilitator is responsible for curriculum development and workshop facilitation. This includes grade level appropriate career exploration and personal development workshops for students. He/she will create objective driven, student-focused lessons, including the use of hands-on, engaging learning techniques. The Career Prep Facilitator, in conjunction with all other staff members, will enforce a program wide classroom management plan to ensure an organized, safe and learning centered environment.
Attendance from 8:00 a.m. -- 12:30 p.m. daily Monday through Thursday
Attendance from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Fridays
The Art Instructor for the Chicago Lights Summer Day Program will be responsible for creating and developing art projects that are engaging and enriching for students (1st – 9th grade) enrolled in the Summer Day program. The Art Instructor will develop an art curriculum that coincides with the Summer Day theme and facilitates students in creating final pieces that will be part of the final performance; either through set and costume building or gallery showing.

Attendance from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Fridays
Program Assistant (West Side)
Program Assistants for the Chicago Lights Summer Day Program provide support in all program areas:
bus stop safety, bus monitoring, dining room monitoring, classroom assistance in academics and arts, and field trip supervision. They are responsible for working with the bus driver to ensure the safety of the children while at bus stops and in transport. Program Assistants maintain an atmosphere that promotes learning in the classrooms and helps teachers, volunteers, and students work together effectively.
The ideal candidate will live near St. Malachy School, 2252 W Washington Blvd, Chicago.
Attendance from 7:45 a.m. -- 4:00 p.m. daily Monday through Friday
Career Prep Facilitator:
Bachelor’s degree preferred, or Associate and comparable work experience
Ability to develop curriculum for highly interactive career and personal development workshops
Knowledge of the various high schools in Chicago including private, public/charter school options
Previous/current workshop facilitation experience, especially with 7th through 9th graders
Ability to employ a variety of learner-centered teaching methods
Associates degree required with at least three years of arts classes (college or other art programs)
Experience in teaching art or creatively working with students
Excellent organizational, conceptual, creative, and classroom management skills
Comfort and talent in working with students in first through ninth grades (6-14 year olds)
Excellent interpersonal skills
Strong communication skills
Dependable and timely
Must be multitask oriented with good organization skills
Patience and ability to bring order to chaotic situations
Appreciation for working with adults and children between the ages of 6 through 16
High School diploma or GED preferred
Additional Salary Information: This is a part-time, seasonal position. The program runs from June 24 - August 1, 2019. This position is not eligible for benefits.
