The Alternative Schools Network, a dynamic non-profit organization located in the Ravenswood area of Chicago, is seeking applicants who are willing to be a supportive advocate for alternative educational resource development for underserved youth and adults.
The Fiscal Director assists with all programs at the Alternative Schools Network. This position also assists with journal entries, bank reconciliations, payroll, and voucher preparation. The Staff Accountants, Senior Accountant, and Grant Compliance Manager-YS3 Program are supervised by the Fiscal Director.
Responsibilitiesand Duties (including but not limited to):
Must be able to develop, design and complete a cost allocation plan
Must be able to develop, design and complete an indirect cost rate for the agency each year
Must be able to supervise, support and train a fiscal staff of
Have experience as a Fiscal Director or senior staff accountant for a large, not for profit, organization for at least 7 years
Experience and knowledge regarding developing and implementing budgets, cost allocation plans and developing indirect cost rates
Experience in not for profit accounting practices and GAAP
Experience preparing for and successfully completing a variety of governmental fiscal audits.
Have experience supervising fiscal staff
Have extensive experience to supervise the following tasks done by fiscal staff: o Journal entries
Voucher Preparation including monthly or the specific timeline for vouchering for funding sources
Prepare reporting requirements as needed for a variety of programs
Assist in preparing budgets for all programs
Assist and oversee General Ledger /journal entries
Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheets
Review and post monthly entries
Prepare cost allocation plan monthly based on time studies
Prepare monthly payroll journal
Prepare allocation entries for indirect and administrative funds
Assist with year-end closing of the budget
Oversee accounts payable
Approve A/P requests weekly in Financial Edge accounting system

Required Knowledge. Skills. and Abilities:
Broad knowledge and experience in non-profit accounting practices and GAAP
Above average skills in interpersonal, communication and personal organizational skill
Excellent Microsoft knowledge, particularly proven Excel skills
Demonstrated ability in reviewing vouchers and communicating with clients and subcontractors
General knowledge of non-profit accounting practices and OMD federal guidelines
Bachelor's degree required.
CPA certification or MBA Preferred
