Jewish Child & Family Services (JCFS) provides vital, individualized, results-driven, therapeutic and supportive services for thousands of children, adults and families of all backgrounds each year. Our JVS Career & Employment (JVS) division is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving lives through employment and productivity by providing job placement assistance, targeted career guidance, job training and employment-related support.
JVS is seeking an Employment Specialist. The purpose of this position is to provide job placement assistance, employment-related services tailored to the needs of underserved populations, e.g. low-income adults, homeless persons, those at risk of homelessness, displaced homemakers, veterans, persons with disabilities and persons with limited work skills.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Provides one-on-one job readiness training and/or teaches group job readiness training classes on topics such as resume and cover letter preparation, interviewing skills, networking, job search techniques, and conflict resolution
Matches candidates’ skills and abilities to employers’ needs. Acts as a liaison to both parties to assist with employment retention
Comfortable completing outreach and marketing activities to recruit employers and grow employment opportunities for assigned caseload. Speaks and writes clearly and informatively with a diverse range of stakeholders in a variety of mediums
Initiates telephone and/or face-to-face contacts with potential employers and referral sources to introduce and explain Agency services, and learn about current job openings
Maintains accurate and updated records and files of employer and client contacts in paper and the Agency’s/Program’s client databases
Thrives in a busy environment with many different demands
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferably in education, health services or other related fields
Experience with job readiness techniques preferred i.e. resume writing, interviewing skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
As this position requires site visits to locations which may or may not be accessible by public transportation, it is required that you be able to drive, have a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle to travel in the Chicago metropolitan area
