The Human Resources Director is directly responsible for the direction, administration and coordination of all Human Resources functions for the Leslie Shankman School Corporation, including the Hyde Park Day School and the Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director and is a strategic and key position in our organization.
The Leslie Shankman School Corporation (LSSC) operates two private special education schools, the Hyde Park Day School and the Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School. Our operating budget is approximately $16 million. We have 3 locations and approximately 190 employees. The LSSC provides business and administrative support to the schools it operates. We are a team of 7 employees and as a relatively small organization, our professionals have broad responsibilities and relationships across the organization. We are looking for a team player and a professional who is comfortable in this environment.
It is critical for success that the candidate has strong communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on fostering an inclusive environment and resolving conflict. Additionally, he/she must be able to communicate with management, staff and legal and professional consultants; and contribute to a positive environment.
Member of leadership teams. Participates in leadership and departmental staff meetings and attends other meetings as needed.
Collaborates with all leadership team members to create a culture of customer service, quality, integrity and accountability.
Employee Relations & Staff Development
Recommends, evaluates and participates in staff development for the organization.
Executes the performance management plans within the company to ensure that all employees receive timely feedback at the designated intervals i.e. 90 days and annual reviews.
Ensures that all established training requirements are met for each employee.
Serves as a point of contact for employees who wish to address their concerns regarding their employment and works with management to resolve.
Coaches and advises managers how to handle employee issues and ensures that all employees are treated fairly and consistently within the law. Recommends disciplinary action up to and including termination when necessary.
Consults with legal counsel as appropriate on personnel matters.
Responsible for recruitment and staffing for all exempt, nonexempt and temporary workers; writes and places job postings; works with supervisors to screen and interview candidates; completes background and references checks as required, extends job offers, and conducts new-employee orientations.
Manages the on-boarding procedures by preparing for new hire orientation, and ensuring that Supervisors are prepared for their new hire's first day of employment, processes new hire paperwork, payroll, benefits election, etc.
Benefits & Compensation
Manage the employee benefit program to include renewal, open enrollment, coverage changes and billing.
Assists with benefits administration and record keeping, i.e. open enrollment process, invoices, scheduling meetings and info sessions, data entry/data management, including employee's leave time activity, accruals and balances, work comp and FMLA documents.
Partner with senior leadership to design incentive plans reward desired behaviors & promote a pay for performance culture
Administering various human resources plans and procedures for all company personnel within designated areas of responsibility; assists in the development, communication and implementation of personnel policies and procedures.
Establishes and maintains department records and reports in compliance with all regulatory and licensing bodies.
Responsible for Compliance with federal, state and local legislation pertaining to all personnel matters.
Completes all reporting requirements in an accurate and timely manner.
Develops and maintains a human resource information that meets the organization’s personnel information needs. Supervises entry and updates of all employee information into the HRIS systems and for all changes made within the system throughout the employee’s tenure with the company. Updates information timely and accurately and documents as needed for the employee file. As we are a small organization

Additional Requirements Education, Experience or Certifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree required
Advanced degree in a related field preferred
Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification or SHRM certification preferred
Experience: A minimum of seven years of experience in management, human resources, or operations in a large, diverse setting required
Supervisory experience required
Experience in an educational setting preferred, but not required
Expertise and significant experience in employee relations preferred
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: Standard office environment
Ability to sit for 2 hours to 4 hours
Ability to use computers extensively for 2 hours to 4 hours
