Franciscan Outreach is a leading provider of services for people experiencing homelessness in Chicago. Throughout the year, it serves more than 7,600 men and women who are marginalized and homeless. Each day, Franciscan Outreach provides safe shelter, healthy meals and critical services to empower people to gain the stability they need to transition into permanent housing.
Franciscan Outreach seeks a proven leader who has been a catalyst in fulfilling an organization's mission and vision. This individual will bring leadership characterized by an ability to garner broad community support, increase visibility of the organization, provide clear direction to a committed staff team, and carry forward major new projects. Although specific experience in an organization serving the homeless is not required, a deeply held passion for the creation and delivery of human services to underserved populations must be evident.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to chart a clear direction and to implement sustainable activities in pursuit of Board approved goals. Candidates must have the ability to build strategy, as well as to set programmatic priorities and goals. Experience making thoughtful yet timely decisions in program design and management in pursuit of organizational priorities is expected. Of critical importance is the candidate’s ability to transform ideas into specific, goal-driven objectives and program outcomes. The successful candidate will bring strengths in business, operations and project management. He or she will have proven skills in financial management and oversight and a history of implementing best practices in policies and procedures.
We seek a leader who communicates Franciscan Outreach’s mission with enthusiasm. The ability to relate to a wide variety of constituents including donors, elected officials, state and federal agencies, businesses, civic groups, neighbors, regulators and advocates is essential. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in obtaining major individual gifts, corporate sponsorships, foundation support, and government grants. Experience in running a capital campaign would be most helpful.
Knowledge of effective practices in the leadership and management of social services is necessary. A proven ability to hire, coach, and lead employees as an effective team of closely coordinated, highly professional, self-accountable staff members is a must. In addition to solid leadership and management skills, the successful candidate will bring patience, kindness and a desire to assist people in their journey towards self-sufficiency.
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required; a master's degree is preferred. Alternatives to a traditional educational background will be considered in exceptional circumstances. Affiliation with and leadership in local, state, or national professional or trade associations related to human services would be a plus.
