RefugeeOne, located in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood, has a national reputation for its success in helping refugees fleeing war, terror, and persecution to build new lives of safety, dignity, and self-reliance. The Grant Writer is an integral member of the development team, focused on helping RefugeeOne achieve its fundraising goals. The Grant Writer reports to the Grants Manager. S/he will:
Research, write and assemble grant inquiries, proposals, and reports to foundations, corporations, and congregations. Coordinate budgets and outcomes with key finance and program staff.
Interact with RefugeeOne’s staff to keep abreast of program activities in order to persuasively communicate RefugeeOne’s programs and needs to donors and prospects.
Research foundations, government, and corporations to identify funding opportunities.
Help coordinate site visits from prospective funders.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Exceptional organizational skills, ability to juggle multiple tasks and projects on deadline
Creativity, curiosity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Proactive, independent work style
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, or related field
Experience in grant writing, journalism, or communications
Minimum two-year commitment
Track record of raising foundation grants
Familiarity with administrative systems
20 hours per week during regular office hours (weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.)
