The American Lung Association has a great opportunity for a National Manager, Research and Grants to join our incredible team in Chicago, IL. Working as a member of the Research and Scientific Affairs Team, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease, through research, education, and advocacy.
In this role, you will provide support and help to coordinate the American Lung Association Research Programs- Airways Clinical Research Centers (ACRC) Network and Awards & Grants. Primary duties include coordination, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of the ALA Nationwide Research Programs. Responsible for coordinating information around ACRC lung health cohort trial, coordinate all research payments and notifications; manage annual grant cycle updates, including submission and review processes. Provide additional assistance, as requested to Research Division staff and the Chief Medical Officer. Work cross-divisionally with marketing, advocacy, health promotions and development teams as needed.
Support the Airways Clinical Research Centers
Support the Implementation of the ACRC, particularly the launch and implementation of the Lung Health Cohort Study- coordinate study information to the centers
Help Support the Asthma and COPD Patient Advisory Groups
Prepare and manage the quarterly study payments; calculate, track and prepare reports to share with Research Team.
Organize and coordinate quarterly Data Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) meetings and all communication regarding set up and follow up (including maintain lists of members for various studies)
Coordinate annual ACRC grant renewal process; includes review of budget allocations, ongoing activities and recruitment reports.
Track patient recruitment of sites to ensure required quotas are met.
Coordinate annual pilot grant cycle (application and review)
Coordinate review processes and communications for addition of consortium sites
Support the Nationwide Awards and Grants Program
Support the applicant process of the Awards and Grants Program. Serve as primary contact for prospective applicants on Research Program inquiries; provide information and advice on eligibility and qualifications questions
Coordinate all pre and post-award documentation and notifications with applicant and University grants department.
Coordinate annual grant cycle through proposal CENTRAL; manage the development and revision of all application and review materials. Generate status report and update the Award database appropriately
Interface with medical institutions regarding payments and receipt of unexpended funds
Coordinate the Renewal Review and Notification Process
Organize and manage logistical requirements for Peer Review meetings
Manage the preparation for and follow-up of Peer Review meetings; coordinate invitations, staffing committees, meals, and supplies
Provide logistical support to peer review committees throughout the meeting planning and execution process
Organize meeting materials and communications with committee members
Work with Meetings Director to coordinate committee travel
Oversee volunteer reimbursement requests
Manage the compilation and editing of recipient abstracts for online and other publication
Coordinate annual updates of research projects and awardees including the addition of new award summaries information and past awardee successes
Support development and marketing of the awardees including the preparation of all appropriate communications, memoranda and webinars
Support the development of Advancing Research, supplying lists of all awardees, partners and committee members.
Bachelor’s degree with a focus on biological sciences or public health preferable.
Previous database experience
Computer proficiency with MS Office – EXCEL experience is required
Prior work experience in administrative position with project management experience
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize using independent judgment. Strong attention to detail is a must.
Must have excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Willingness and ability to take initiative and to ensure increased responsibility with minimum supervision.
Familiarity with scientific research, peer review processes and clinical networks.
A willingness to learn and adapt to new situations.
