Position Summary: The Clinical Counselor/Therapist provides clinical support to adults with intellectual disabilities in the home and day programming setting by providing assistance and guidance in developing skill sets to effectively manage mental and behavioral health challenges. The Clinical Counselor provides support through weekly counseling sessions and writing and maintaining counseling plans based upon assessment results and the individuals’ therapeutic goals. The Clinical Counselor provides clinical skills trainings, presentations and team member consultations to ensure a comprehensive treatment plan across all environments and to enhance the individuals’ communication and emotional regulation skill sets.
Counsel individuals in CILA and day programming.
Write and maintain Counseling plans for individuals who have been referred for clinical services.
Complete required documentation including Behavior Enrichment Committee (BEC) and Human Rights Committee (HRC) forms, Person Centered Plans (PCP) summaries, monthly summaries, billing documentation and other clinical services department paperwork, accurately and in a timely manner.
Present Counseling plans to BEC and HRC.
Communicate with life consultants (case managers), team leaders and other interdisciplinary team members regarding progress towards therapy goals.
Monitor maladaptive data tracking or monthly clinical assessment results.
Provide intervention or assistance with individuals in crisis or as needed.
Participate in monthly psychiatric consultations.
Develop staff trainings on mental health topics, including anxiety, depression, psychosis, etc. as needed.
Monitor consistent use of program data charts, scales, checklists, etc. to ensure deadlines are met.
Run therapy groups for those who could benefit from them.
Track time and clinical services provided for DHS billing on a daily basis to reach monthly billing goal.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Master’s in Counseling or related field required.
Licensed professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Social Worker (LSW) required.
A valid driver’s license with a good driving record, personal vehicle and state minimum insurance coverage.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to apply therapy techniques and train on them.
Ability to effectively and courteously present information and respond to questions from families, employees and the general public.
Ability to manage confidential information.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines plus maintain an attention to detail.
Ability to work well with a team.
Working Conditions: Majority of the work requires a moderate to heavy degree of physical exertion with the possibility of interactions with individuals who are verbally/physically aggressive.
