The LEAF Program provides literacy services to adults and children through several program areas: adult education, which consists of English as a Second Language, Computer Skills, and Bridge classes; early childhood, which includes a licensed daycare, as well as a home visiting program, and school-age programming, which includes after-school and a summer camp.
The ESL Coordinator/Instructor will be responsible for offering instruction in one of our five levels of ESL that we offer. Class responsibilities include planning for the class, including assessments, teaching, and taking part in recruitment and enrollment activities. The Instructor will also make contributions to the growth and quality of the LEAF Program, taking on projects and coordinating programs between departments. They may include support in reporting and grants management, professional development, assessment, oversee Bridge/special programs and ordering of teaching materials.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach ESL classes from basic literacy to advanced English levels
Coordinate curriculum and teaching materials with other teachers in adult education program(s)
Oversee ESL student registration and testing
Submit periodic reports to funders of our adult education program
When appropriate, supervise AmeriCorps member
Supervise and oversee the Bridge program
Oversee volunteers in the LEAF Program
Fulfill administrative duties as instructor, to include attendance, pre- and post testing, registration, and recruitment and retention efforts
Participate in regular staff development activities, both on- and off site.
Demonstrate ability to have a positive impact on ESL class, AHS as a whole, and the field of adult education.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
Bachelor's Degree required.
Experience teaching ESL to adult immigrants.
Experience working with multi-level classes of all sizes.
Ability to act as mentor/supervisor to AmeriCorps members who are teaching in program.
Must be able to lift up to twenty-five pounds of books and supplies.
Thorough understanding of English and methods of instruction. Microsoft Office Suite
Teaching ability, clear communication with clients, colleagues and community partners.
