The YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago, a social enterprise committed to “Eliminating Racism and Empowering Women,” is seeking an BILINGUAL ADVOCATE. This person will be based at our Patterson McDaniel Family Center location in Addison, IL. This is an exempt, full-time position reporting to the Coordinator, Advocacy & Crisis Intervention Services; salary is commensurate with experience.
POSITION PURPOSE: The Bilingual Advocate is the first responder to a victim in need, providing trauma-informed advocacy, sexual violence crisis counseling and holistic service planning in person and on the phone for hotline callers. This person is available to accompany victims to hospitals, police departments, and court as needed.
Accompany victims to hospitals, police departments, and court, while providing crisis counseling, safety planning, and advocacy, including information and referrals within and outside of the YWCA
Establish and maintain liaisons with local hospitals, police departments, State’s Attorneys’ offices and other agencies related to pending litigation on behalf of the victim
Be available to cover the hotline during working hours and to participate in on-call rotation, providing after hours and weekends backup
Assist in training and provide guidance and support to program volunteers, including on-call supervision to volunteers dealing with unclear or unusual situations
Provide outreach to other community organizations to expand accessibility to services
Develop and implement professional training for medical, criminal justice, and social service personnel regarding appropriate service provision to victims of sexual violence.
Conduct presentations and trainings for community groups and other organizations.
Complete all administrative tasks as assigned on a timely basis. This includes, but is not limited to, weekly activity reports, monthly reports, maintaining demographic and evaluative material for clients’ files.
Bachelor’s degree with a major area of study in social work, human services, or a related field from an accredited university/college
Minimum of six months – one year of experience working in sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, or other trauma-related services
Fluency in both English and Spanish (oral and written) required
Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to meet insurance standards
Demonstrated ability to respond quickly, effectively, and sensitively to individuals in crisis
Ability to work in a team environment, sharing cases as needed, covering co-workers on their cases when they are out or unavailable, and taking on-call rotation and covering the Hot Line as needed
