Our youth development programs provide opportunities for youth to build skills through the arts, technology, participatory action research, employment training and placement, gender-specific activities, restorative justice programs, peer-focused communications campaigns and behavioral health services.
Our agency is seeking a full-time Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist to provide in-school substance abuse prevention programming as well as in-community programming. The position requires a dynamic individual interested in a fast paced work environment coordinating services with school administrators, state prevention specialists and Alternatives Youth Development staff. Past experience working with urban youth and their families within a multidisciplinary setting preferred. Bachelor’s Degree or higher required. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish preferred but not required.
Work within schools with youth from 6 to 12 grades to implement prevention curriculum and prevention communication campaigns on positive youth messaging
Foster positive relationships with school administrators, teachers, and other staff
Develop mentoring relationships and supportive learning opportunities for youth
Support local schools in administering the Illinois Youth Survey
Design and manage youth summer program, including developing a mission, vision & objectives, developing a curriculum, creating policies and procedures, and planning activities both on and off-site
Manage all administrative aspects including meal service, data collection for grant reporting, parent communication, and tier 2 behavior interventions for a 10 week summer day program
Co-plan, co-coordinate, and co-facilitate meetings of the Uptown Coalition for a Healthier Community
Participate in weekly team meetings to keep the team on target to meet program objectives
Collect, record, and analyze program data
