ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Under the direct supervision of the Site Manager and the support from the Education Coordinator, the Early Head Start Teacher is responsible for contributing to the development and implementation of an education plan that is designed to meet the needs of each individual child enrolled in the program in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, NAEYC Standards and State Pre-K (CPS-Preventive Initiative Center Base Program).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
With the classroom team, ensure the implementation of the preschool program ensuring adherence to funding requirements as set by Head Start Program Performance Standards, NAEYC (National Education for the Education of Young Children) Standards and other licensing requirements.
Create and maintain a safe environment which promotes the safety, trust, respect and security for children, staff and parents.
Provides an overall classroom environment that is reflective of multi-ethnic populations, is conducive to enjoyment, relaxation and socialization and has well defined interest areas. Shares responsibility for room arrangements and clean-up after daily classroom activities.
Promotes recognition, acceptance and positive interactions among children and among staff.
With the classroom team, plans, prepares and implements developmentally appropriate child initiated and teacher directed activities for individuals, small and large groups of children.
With the classroom team, supervises all of the children’s activities, modeling respect and acceptance of each child as an individual.
With the classroom team, identifies children who may need specialized services.
Observe and report children’s health, development, and behavior to the team teacher and experts.
Ensure soiled diaper/clothing is changed throughout the day and as needed.
Completes observations, anecdotal notes, screenings, Teaching Strategies GOLD checkpoints, home visits and parent teacher conferences as required.
Ensure completion of all recordkeeping, as well as documentation of individual and family needs and issues.
In the absence of any team teacher, will be overseeing that the implementation of Creative Curriculum, NAEYC standards and Head Start Program Standards as it pertains to classroom program and ensure all information is entered into designated operating system (i.e., COPA, Teaching Strategies GOLD, portfolios, etc.)
Work closely with special consultants and other resource people.
Plan field trips; prepare children and follow-up on field trip activities.
Attends weekly team meetings to complete lesson plans, discuss children’s progress and individual needs, discuss check points, parent teacher conferences, home visits etc.
Maintain appropriate teacher/child ratios as required by DCFS licensing standards.
Establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with parents. Is available for formal and informal conferences on a daily basis. Participates in monthly parent meetings and activities.
Assist in preparing children for nap and supervise children during rest periods.
Utilize appropriate child development practices regarding guidance and discipline.
Recruit children for program.
Responsible for assisting in other classrooms or programs as required by the agency.
Collaborate with other staff, volunteers, and/or neighborhood organizations with on-going program implementation and in developing special events.
Maintain current knowledge in field including attendance at seminars, workshops, and in-service training programs.
Attend staff meetings, parent meetings, child staffing, agency events and other meetings as necessary.
Attend regular supervision sessions with supervisor.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
BA in Early Childhood Education required
Gateways to Opportunity Infant Toddler Credential Level 5
Must demonstrate basic reading, writing, and communication skills at a level consistent with entry in college training programs.
Two to five years experience in teaching toddler children and working with parents.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
First Aid/CPR certificate compliance or completion within first year of employment.

Salary Range: $38.000.00 - $45,000.00/year
