Neopolitan Lighthouse is looking to hire a Client Support Staff who will cover the agency’s 24-hour crisis line and provide trauma-informed support services to adult victims and their children residing in the organization’s domestic violence shelter facility. The Client Support Staff will provide victims of domestic violence with client-centered trauma-informed individual counseling and group counseling in order to educate them about domestic violence, assist them in overcoming the trauma of the abuse that they have experienced, and assist them in regaining their dignity and self-respect. The Client Support Staff will also provide clients with a variety of counseling services, advocacy, information/referrals and linkage in order to assist them in accessing needed services and accomplishing their self-identified goals and objectives. Additionally, this staff member will assist clients with day-to-day activities within the shelter facility.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Cover the agency’s 24-hour crisis line and provide callers with crisis intervention counseling, domestic violence shelter eligibility assessments, telephone intakes, assistance in identifying possible safety strategies and options, and information/referrals.
Complete in-person intakes for adults and children entering the Shelter Program.
Provide trauma-informed, client-centered individual counseling, domestic violence education, service planning, safety planning, and other support services to victims of domestic violence to assist them in reconciling their feelings regarding the abuse they have experienced.
Provide civil legal advocacy, IDVA education, and VCVA counseling to clients in order to educate them about their legal rights and remedies as survivors of abuse.
Facilitate peer support/group counseling sessions to educate clients about domestic violence and related topics, and to assist them in overcoming the trauma of the abuse they experienced.
Provide clients with information/referrals, advocacy, and linkage in order to assist them in accessing needed services and resources that are offered by Neopolitan Lighthouse as well as other organizations.
Actively work with clients on tasks that will assist them in reaching their goals.
Assist the Children’s Case Manager with the Children’s Project by providing individual and group counseling, educational assistance, advocacy, and other services to children in the shelter.
Work with clients to ensure the compliance of house rules for the safety of all residents and staff.
Assist clients in completing day-to-day activities within the shelter (i.e. meal preparation, chore and laundry completion, etc.).
Prepare monthly reports and assist in the auditing of client files on a monthly basis.
Participate in bi-weekly staff meetings and training seminars.
Encourage a positive atmosphere for the shelter/community living environment.
Complete all documentation on primary assigned clients (i.e. update goal sheet every three days,
complete outtake paperwork, etc.)
Complete no less than 20 hours per week in documented counseling hours.
Assist the Housekeeper with the upkeep of the shelter facility.
Other duties as assigned.
Schedule consists of 40 hours per week: Several evening and overnight positions available. Must be able to work weekends.
Qualifications and Skills
1.) Bachelor's Degree with 1 year of experience in a human service or related field; or 2.) Associate's Degree with 2 years of experience in a human service or related field; or 3.) Five years of experience working with an at risk population. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus. Possessing a 40 hour domestic violence certificate is also a plus.
