Under the supervision of the Adult Education Manager, assists adult education students in identifying long-term educational goals and promoting career pathways in order to achieve successful transition to post-secondary education, training and/or employment. The position is also responsible for documenting student participation and progress as specified by funding source requirements as well as developing ideas for new programs and services that benefit adult learners in the transition phase.
Summary of Essential Job Duties:
Actively identify and recruit prospective adult education students into a Career Pathway program at St. Augustine College in Aurora.
Actively identify and recruit traditional High School Completion program students to transition into post-secondary education, training, and/or employment and implement processes, which lead students to a positive outcome before exiting the program.
Assist with the support, development, and the expansion of St. Augustine College’s Incentive and bridge programs for adult learners.
Administer assessment tests (TABE) in English and Spanish as indicated by funder and according to IWE program policy and procedures.
Accurately complete intake forms as required by IWE and/or grantor and properly advice students regarding adult education and St. Augustine courses and programs.
Periodically meet with prospective transition students to advise and assist them through the registration process of St. Augustine College credit classes; perform individual and group orientations regarding setting goals and achieving successful transitions to college in both English and Spanish.
Track student goals (setting and achieving) to meet funder performance measures including the tracking of student success passing the GED/HiSET tests.
Track and address student issues and barriers as they take post-secondary education and training to ensure attendance and overall success.
Ensure that students that choose to continue their education at St. Augustine College are successfully transitioned in partnership with the admissions and academic advising departments.
Conduct transition workshops on topics relevant to employment and college readiness skills (college preparation, interviewing, resume writing, internet job search techniques, networking, career interest assessments, etc.)
Create and monitor personalized education/training and employment plans; ensure compliance with program standards and agreements; evaluate and report on project goals and outcomes and adhere to reporting timelines.
Attend administrative meetings and events as required by IWE and grantor.
Provide administrative support to Adult Education as needed.
Complete special projects and other duties consistent with IWE goals as assigned by the Manager of Adult Education.
Reliable transportation required.
Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, psychology, or related field with 1 to 3 years of experience recruiting, advising, and transitioning students of diverse social and racial backgrounds. Experience with adult education students preferred.
1-2 years of experience with post-secondary and workforce preparation programs, job search, and placement services.
Knowledge of career pathways, college placement testing, college application processes, advising, and financial aid processes.
Basic to intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, Power Point, and Outlook.
Ability to multi-task in a very fast-paced environment.
Good written and verbal communication skills in Spanish and English.
