The Anti-Cruelty Society is accepting applications for an Accounting Assistant. This opportunity will provide the successful candidate the opportunity to support all duties related to The Anti-Cruelty Society’s accounting and finance department.
This position reports to the Accountant and will perform performs various tasks and duties related to the cash receipts, accounts payable and cash disbursements of the Society. Hands-on experience with Financial Edge software is highly desirable.
Essential Job Functions:
Receives daily sales and service receipts from retail, shelter and clinical areas; prepares deposits as required and reconciles activity with daily reports;
Deposits cash receipts (cash and checks) in a timely and accurate manner;
Summarizes and records daily cash receipts and concurrently enters information into the accounting records;
Enters and balances Direct Mail receipts into the Donor Records System;
Receives and enters cash transactions from external sources provided from the Accountant;
Maintains complete and accurate records of all deposits, donor and cash transactions;
Maintains cash disbursement and cash receipts documentation files;
Maintains estate files and documentation;
Creates purchase orders as requested.
Reconciles vendor statements to identify unrecorded activity or expedite the refunding or application of overpayments.
The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable of and have exposure working with automated accounting, cash receipting and donor records systems. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and the ability to use these tools in the work environment. The ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, understand and follow oral and written instructions and technical terminology, and recognize job inefficiencies and recommend changes which address the problems. Must be able to learn and adapt to varied work assignments and operate standard office equipment. Must also have knowledge of and empathy with the mission of the Society with good interpersonal and customer service orientation.
The successful candidate will have an Associates Diploma (or better) in Accounting or related field with a minimum of one to three years of related experience, preferably in a not-for-profit setting.
