SkyART is a permanent fixture in the vibrant cultural landscape of Chicago's South Side. WHAT WE DO
Through interdisciplinary, process-based projects, skill-building workshops, and large-scale collaborations, SkyART encourages critical thinking and inspires creative expression for youth ages 7 to 24. Using an artist-in-residence model, Teaching Artists work side by side with students, in an atmosphere of mutual esteem and shared curiosity, through our dynamic and experimental new methodology.
The Assistant Director of Development identifies, develops and stewards relationships and subsequent fundraising activities with individuals and corporations, government agencies, foundations, and other funding institutions. This position is This Assistant Director works with the Executive Director, development staff, program staff, and Board of Directors to create, lead, implement and evaluate successful fundraising strategies from individuals and institutional funders. The AD, working with a development staff of two, thinks creatively to develop new and innovative ways to fundraise. They are committed to the goals of SkyART and can articulate the vision and mission.
Leadership and Strategy (10%)
Represent SkyART internally and externally to raise the agency’s profile and create fundraising opportunities.
Actively promote the agency’s mission, vision and values.
Participate in strategic and annual work planning.
Support board members to be effective fundraisers.
Re-activate and steward the Development Committee of the Board. Schedule and staff the Development Committee meetings; provide information and reports to Committee as needed.
Stay abreast of relevant changes in philanthropic sector and communicate to senior staff.
Individual, Corporate and Institutional Giving (60%)
Develop and implement long-term growth strategies for individual, Corporate and Institutional giving to achieve established goals.
Develop and monitor individual and institutional giving revenue projections and goals and report progress to leadership.
Review financial statements, budgets and reports; work with operations staff to ensure financial documents to funders are accurate and meet requirements set by funders.
Ensure compliance with grant requirements.
Oversee execution of the mail and online appeal programs; conduct analysis of campaigns; make changes in strategy if needed.
Research, develop and implement new social media-based fundraising strategies.
Identify, cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors. Assist Executive Director to strategize, schedule and solicit major gift prospects and donors.
Conduct and/or delegate prospect research; manage a portfolio of that research to identify new prospective donor opportunities.
Engage with, train and support Board and other leaders who may have access to and contact with individual prospects to steward and solicit major gifts.
Coordinate visits with major gift donors and facilitate and participate as needed. Ensure staff are adequately prepared.
Analyze evaluative and anecdotal data and develop fundraising strategies for solicitation of major donors, grantmakers, and corporate partners.
Develop marketing plan for Make Your Mark to increase corporate partners. Solicit corporate partners for that program. Work with program staff to ensure fulfillment.
Special Events (25%)
Develop innovative ways to expand net proceeds from events.
Oversee the strategy, concept, planning calendar, budget, and evaluation for the annual event;
Serve as lead staff and coordinate smaller events (house party, cocktail party, etc.) or third-party benefits for SkyART. Execute event, make assignments and coordinate logistics. Monitor budget evaluate results.
Plan organizational strategies for converting event attendees to donors
Administration and other (5%)
Oversee gift-tracking and donor acknowledgement, ensuring accurate record-keeping of contributions according to best practices and IRS guidelines.
Reconcile individual, Corporate and institutional income with finance staff.
Work with the development team to integrate consistent messaging and outreach to donor segments via the web, social media and e-newsletters
Oversee the development of reports for evaluation
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
YOUR BACKGROUND INCLUDES
A bachelor’s degree is required, with demonstrated pursuit of continuing education in the philanthropic sector.
A membership in AFP is an asset.
Minimum three years of experience in development, including annual giving, prospect research, writing fundraising requests.
Overall understanding and knowledge of the Chicago philanthropic community, the arts and culture funding community a plus.
Demonstrated ability to successfully raise funds from individuals, make presentations, train others to do so
Previous supervision experience preferred
Computer skills including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, CRM database and social media. Experience with Little Green Light or similar fundraising software is a plus.
