The Volunteer Manager is responsible for the management and development of the volunteer program and ensures that volunteerism continues to grow as well as works to support the operations and mission of the organization. As a small not-for-profit, volunteers play a crucial role in supporting the work we do on a day to day basis. The Volunteer Manager plays a key role in ensuring that the ACL volunteer culture fosters long-lasting relationships.
Responsibilities include recruitment, development, training, management and retention of volunteers; overall program development to support the ever changing needs of the organization; coordinating volunteers for day to day operations as well as offsite events; managing volunteers at offsite events; Conduct New Volunteer Orientations, volunteer trainings and meetings as needed; regular volunteer communication/engagement through weekly/monthly newsletters; Evaluating volunteers and determining best fit or identifying skills to be used in other areas; Determine and facilitate ways to acknowledge volunteer accomplishments; Providing reports and statistics as requested; Ensuring that volunteer program goals are being met; basic administrative functions including processing applications, management of volunteer database/records (Volgistics), volunteer coordinating, scheduling and correspondence.
The ideal candidate would have a positive can-do attitude with creative problem solving skills, exceptional inter-personal skills, and a love for animals and people alike.
Minimum 2 years of people management/leadership experience preferably in a non-profit setting
Animal Care League is a 501(c)3 non-profit animal shelter located in Oak Park, IL. Animal Care League is committed to providing shelter, medical care, and comfort to animals in need; reducing animal overpopulation; and acting as a community resource, thus promoting the human/animal bond. We serve as a stray holding facility for Oak Park, Forest Park, River Forest, North Riverside and Northlake. ACL also offers low-cost spay/neuter and vaccine services as well as a low-cost pet food pantry for those in need.
