Our client, The Harbour is seeking mission-driven individuals for Youth Development Specialist positions. The successful candidate will support youth involved in the Transition Living Program (TLP). The Transition Living Program provides housing for girls ages 16-21 experiencing homelessness while they finish high school, work part-time, and transition to self-sufficiency. The Youth Development Specialist is integral in designing and implementing opportunities for youth to learn and practice new skills within a therapeutic 24-hour care environment. Youth Development Specialists assist in planning and monitoring daily activities of youth within the environment of 24-hour care. The Youth Development Specialist will also participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to act as an advocate for the youths they support to help ensure the youth receive the care they need.

About the Client
What happens to a young person who has been locked out by his or her family, or who flees to escape an abusive home situation? What becomes of teenagers maturing out of foster care? Teens ages 12-17 are more likely to become homeless than adults. 5,000 young people die every year due to assault, illness or suicide while homeless. The Harbour looks to provides emergency housing and services to youth experiencing homelessness to promote safety, stability and personal growth. Empowering young people to be self?sufficient through safe housing and support services to prevent homelessness by providing an intensive, focused program designed to enhance school and vocational success, competency, and self-reliance, youth are deflected from future homelessness or public assistance.
The Emergency Shelter program began in 1975 as the very first service offered by The Harbour. Nearly 40 years later, the shelter has undergone several changes to better meet the needs of youth in the community. Now open to girls ages 12-21, the Shelter program works with girls and their families to stabilize their situations and ensure that they receive necessary services.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide crisis intervention support and follow up
Complete Medication Logs according to Medication Procedure
Complete UIRs according to DCFS Procedure
Complete all house and client documentation as required
Actively participate in driving the successful outcomes of youth in the program communicating concerns across shifts
Actively participate in Life Skills groups, recreational and community activities on and off campus sites
Communicate facilities issues, equipment failures, safety concerns, and all other needs to the proper person
Safeguard the financial integrity of youth and house cash by documenting and communicating expenditures, turning in balance sheets and receipts for all youth checks and purchases.
Complete 80 hours of agency onboarding training including TCI, FA/CPR
BA, BS, or BSW in the human service field
Must have a valid Illinois driver's license, vehicle, and current insurance
Must be able to operate standard kitchen equipment (ex. stove, coffee maker, microwave)
Must be able to operate office equipment (ex. fax machines, copier machine, phone, calculator, and computer)
Must be able to walk up and down stairs at least 20 times in a shift
Must be able to lift items up to 20
Experience with teens/adolescents
Selected candidates must pass a DCFS background check prior to his/her start date
