Under the general direction of the Director of Development, the Event Coordinator is responsible for the overall success of the administrative duties for the agency’s largest fundraising events, third party events, and volunteer events.
This position serves as a liaison position between the organization, board, volunteers and community when planning, organizing and executing events. Through the use of detail-oriented organization, event planning and creation, proficiency of technology, and strong written and oral communication skills, this position will enable JOURNEYS | The Road Home to reach its fund-raising goals and continue to strengthen and build new strong community relationships.
EVENT PLANNING | 70%
Work with Event Chairs to execute the agency’s three major fundraising events to include BID For HOPE, Superhero 5K, and the Women’s Luncheon
Primary lead on secondary Agency events such as Annual Meeting
Create new events to target identified populations and Agency milestones
Secure sponsors as well as monetary and in-kind donations in support of all events
Work with and maintain good relationships with all event donors, sponsors, and vendors
Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to execute volunteer service days and events
Work with the Young Professionals Board to execute fund raising and outreach events
Initiate and coordinate secondary events, such as third party, shop & share, and other special fundraisers
ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS | 30%
Maintain full and complete records for all event processes, contracts, and donor information
Coordinate with Marketing & Development Associate on all needed collateral materials and scheduling for promotion of all agency events
Execute the process of receiving and batching in-kind and monetary donations for events
Work within the donor database to facilitate mail merges for all event communications
Attend the JOURNEYS Young Professionals Board Meetings as event liaison

This work is primarily sedentary and requires travel throughout the service area as well as within the greater Chicago area. The work schedule varies depending on the needs and services of the organization. Evening and weekend work is necessary in order to attend meetings or to participate in events. This position will require exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Bachelors Degree in Marketing, English, Communications, Event Management or related field
Two years experience in event management
Knowledge of donor database and event software
Must have valid driver’s license and be at ease with driving
Familiar with the communities within JOURNEYS service area
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

About JOURNEYS | The Road Home
JOURNEYS | The Road Home provides shelter and social services to the homeless and near homeless in 37 communities in the north & northwest suburbs of Cook County. In the past year, we provided almost 1000 clients with assistance. Comprehensive services and programs are available year-round at our HOPE Center. Shelter is available seven nights a week from October 1 to April 30 at 18 locations throughout our service area, and five nights a week during the summer.
