Senior Grant Writer

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

Experience:

• A minimum of three years’ experience in grant writing/grant management or business writing; understands “the customer”, principles of targeted marketing and donor engagement; experience in the nonprofit sector highly valued.
• 3-5 years of non-profit administrative, development, and major gifts experience.
• Current Chicago corporate and foundation relationships and proven track record of grant writing success preferred.
• Experience with Salesforce fundraising program preferred but not required; experience with technology, online platforms, marketing programs or other specialized programs preferred.
• Knowledge of targeted fundraising techniques/donor software for foundations and corporations, with track record of successfully seeking and helping to close major gifts.
• Knowledge of Chicago’s philanthropic community and understanding of current funding trends.
• Knowledge of grant application processes as well as the principles and practices of grant preparation and administration; familiarity with community-based social services programs a plus.
• Entrepreneurial problem solver; a “closer” willing to do what it takes to secure the funding.

Other:

• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong project management skills; able to successfully manage a large portfolio in advance of multiple deadlines.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills, including the ability to convey seemingly complex projects in a compelling, succinct, and persuasive manner. Ability to identify and articulate specific organizational needs, which can be expressed as funding priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast changing, deadline-driven environment, with ability to plan, take initiative, prioritize tasks independently, and manage multiple projects and deadlines without losing attention to detail.
• Relationship-oriented; team player with high levels of enthusiasm and personal and professional integrity.
• Display sensitivity to the cultural diversity of SGA’s service populations.
• Must demonstrate the mission, vision and values of the organization.

Key Competencies:  

• Competent in Microsoft Office tools and inputting services in an online database.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to remain stationary 50% of the time.
• Must be able to frequently move inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Occasionally ascends/descends stairs.
• At times may be required to lift up to 25 lbs. for various classrooms and events needs.
• Frequently moves in outdoor weather conditions.
