The Adler Planetarium is seeking a Controller to join our dynamic team located on Chicago's Museum Campus.
This highly visible position is responsible for the effective and efficient execution of all financial and reporting functions at the Adler. Key responsibilities include:
Oversight of all financial processes and reporting, and adherence to strong internal control practices
Overall responsibility for annual audit of financial statements, single audit, defined benefit pension plan, defined contribution plan, and preparation of annual tax returns.
Lead role in the annual budget and reforecast process.
Oversee cash management and the proper accounting for donor-restricted funds.
Oversee all special reporting including the preparation of the indirect cost rate proposal and compliance with federal grant requirements.
Interaction with and support of Board Audit and Finance Committees.
Supervision and development of Accounting team members.
Support institutional initiatives, including project and portfolio management, development of key performance indicators, ongoing security and risk improvement, and other activities as needed.
The Controller will leverage progressive experience in all facets of accounting and reporting to provide exceptional support to colleagues at our leading edge cultural institution. The Adler has a wide range of activities beyond the museum visit. The Controller possesses a demonstrated ability to initiate, manage and complete projects, and collaborates with team members at all levels.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent
Minimum ten years of experience including at least five years supervisory experience.
Prior public accounting experience.
Experience with nonprofit and federal grant reporting
Experience with Intacct and/or Martus a plus
