Summer Adventures in Learning is a unique summer day camp experience hosted on the campus of Science & Arts Academy (SAA) in Des Plaines, IL. Programming is available for all 3 year olds through rising 8th graders in the community, including those who attend SAA and other schools during the year. There are no other eligibility requirements. Summer Adventures in Learning is a highly sought after day camp in the area and spaces often fill well before the summer begins! Staff choose to work at Summer Adventures because of the professional challenge, the opportunities to build meaningful relationships with campers, the creativity of programming, and the support offered by colleagues and administrators. Families can register their child for one, two, or three sessions:
Session 1: June 15th - June 26th
Session 2: June 29th - July 10th
Session 3: July 13th - July 24th
As a Teacher Assistant in the Young Learners Program for preschool and kindergarten age children, you will support the planning and instruction of enrichment and recreational programming. The Young Learners Program is comprised of one Preschool and one Kindergarten classroom in the morning, from 9am to 12pm. Morning activities include daily routines, interactive lessons, story time, projects, and free play. Campers staying for the full day program until 3pm will typically combine into one group and will have lunch followed by outdoor games, trips to the waterpark, and other recreational activities.
A Teacher Assistant must commit to at least one entire two-week session, however, within that session there may be flexibility with working in the morning, afternoons, or the full day. Generally speaking, Teacher Assistants are expected to arrive by 8:45am and may leave following dismissal around 3:15pm.

Knowledgeable about classroom and behavior management techniques

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or in the process of attaining
At least two years of relevant teaching experience in a school, camp, or other educational setting
Experience in gifted education is a plus but not essential
Must pass background check and complete all safety training and orientation requirements
