In the last year, Catherine Cook School has experienced change and growth. The Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) will provide vision and effective communication for the Catherine Cook School community. Always keeping the mission in mind, the Director will be prepared to lead and engage by facilitating professional development, parent education events and curricular guidance to further develop and nurture Catherine Cook’s values, particularly in diversity, equity and inclusion. The Director will work closely with students, faculty, staff, administration and families to promote a sense of belonging for all. A love for the academic setting; a passion for teaching and learning; flexibility; and a sense of humor are essential. The Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will report to the Head of School as part of the administrative team and will lead the DEI Council, comprised of guardians, faculty, staff and Board members.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:
In collaboration with the Head of School and Administrative Team, coordinate professional development and other community engagement opportunities, as they relate to DEI.
In collaboration with the Head of School and Administrative Team, review and develop policies to promote inclusive practice at school.
Act as the liaison between all constituents and senior leadership, creating a space for listening and learning about the DEI needs of the community.
In collaboration with division heads and the director of co-curricular activities, identify needs for additional support in curriculum and co-curricular programs in the areas of diversity, cultural competence, and social justice.
Develop DEI Strategic Plan for all areas of diversity and make recommendations to the Head of School to further advance DEI efforts.
Partner with the Director of Admission and the Director of Advancement to develop and deliver consistent diversity messaging.
Assist Director of Admission in efforts to recruit and retain families of diverse backgrounds, including engaging in the process of tuition assistance.
In collaboration with the administrative team, develop and maintain DEI strategies for the recruitment, hiring, and retention of faculty and staff.
Partner with faculty, staff, and administration in identifying, addressing, and supporting challenging situations, as they relate to DEI.
Support existing affinity/alliance groups and identify potential needs for additional opportunities.
Identify DEI leadership opportunities for students, faculty, and staff.
A minimum of five years in a leadership role with significant work and experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Demonstrated knowledge of DEI best practices.
