Hephzibah Children’s Association is a social service agency in Oak Park, IL that has been helping children thrive and families flourish through innovative community-based programs for more than one hundred years. The agency programs include two residential group homes for young children, foster care and intact family support programs, Head Start and after school and summer day care programs for elementary aged students.
We are seeking a full time Controller in our Finance Department. The Controller reports directly to the Finance Director and is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. This position is responsible for maintaining accounting practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. Responsibilities include managing the finance team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, and the support of budget and forecast activities.
Registered CPA and Master’s degree in Accounting required.
7–10 years accounting experience with supervisory and leadership skills required, non-profit experience preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, ability to work independently, and ability to work effectively with staff, parents, board members, contractors, oversight agencies and the public.
Requires exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, good judgment, high ethical standards, and strong operational focus.
Requires continual attention to detail, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines, ability to work well under pressure, and ability to manage multiple tasks and demands.
Experience and competencies in Microsoft Office, Word and Excel, and a demonstrated ability to gain computer skills in agency general ledger software.
Sensitivity and responsiveness to the cultural differences in the staff and client populations.
