Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. We are seeking a full-time dynamic, innovative, and experienced 8th Grade Physical Science teacher. Coursework is conducted in an experiential lab setting that combines learning by doing, exploring/tinkering, reflecting, and additional pedagogical techniques. Coursework is taught with thought-provoking activities that challenge and inspire inquiry. Co-teaching takes place in some units, particularly in robotics, engineering, and coding.
Essential parts of this position include advising eighth graders, chaperoning class trips, leading a community engagement group, collaborating with colleagues on the grade-level team and in the science department, and hosting thoughtful parent conferences.

B.S. in Science (Physical Science background preferred), Master’s preferred
A minimum of three years of middle school classroom experience preferred
Excellent communication skills, sound judgment, and emotional maturity
An affinity for working with middle school-aged children
Understanding of and commitment to the tenets of progressive education
Demonstrated record of developing one’s own cultural competency and incorporating diversity, equity and inclusion in practices and curriculum
Ability to differentiate instruction to include all learners
A commitment to being an advisor and facilitating class trips
Ability to collaborate, create, and modify curriculum with colleagues on a team
Direct experience with Middle School Science curriculum design a plus
Demonstrated use of research-based pedagogical methods in the classroom
Commitment to ongoing professional development in science and progressive education
Knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards
Familiarity with technology and innovation in the classroom
Understanding of early adolescence as a stage of human development
The ability to communicate clearly, honestly, and empathically with early adolescents
Experience in communicating effectively with parents/guardians
Interest in extra-curricular involvement with students
