Position Title: Employment Specialist
Reports to: Manager of Employment Services
Position Description: The Employment Specialist supports HOW’s clients in developing various forms of earned income. Participants in HOW programs receive support services. These services are designed to engage participants and prepare them for a transition to independence. This position focuses on job preparation, working and creating job placement and retention models, assisting clients entering the workforce, leading towards financial stability. The Employment Specialist position supports client skill development, job search and development of a career path. The Employment Specialist assists clients in developing positive workplace relationships, reinforcing the standards of performance outlines in the workforce development principals.
Duties and Responsibilities
One on One Client Engagement & Service
Support an individualized approach to skill development and career advancement
Assess client work history and educational attainment
Together with clients, develop Individual Career Plans
Investigate job opportunities using an individualistic approach to job development
Follow-up and provision of retention services
Coordinate services with case managers and other service teams
Training Development & Coordination
Develop and deliver workshops on a wide range of workforce topics - including job search techniques, resume writing, career planning, and financial literacy
Develop and facilitate client groups on relevant topics
Build and maintain strong relationships with employers, resulting in accepted referrals for employment interviews
Build and maintain effective relationships with colleges, trade schools and vocational training programs
Build collaborative relationships with appropriate workforce development agencies and training providers
Participate in relevant coalitions and networks
Complete all relevant data collection in accordance with agency and funder requirements
Ensure program targets for agency and funder outcomes are achieved
Participate in strategic planning around achievement program outcomes
Maintain required documentation in online databases and client files
Maintain required professional knowledge and job skills
Participate in required staff meetings and trainings
Maintain regular and predictable attendance during standard business hours, with willingness to work flexible hours as required by the position’s responsibilities
Perform other duties as assigned or approved by direct supervisor
POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate experience in the employment and training field
Must have relevant experience in workforce development, economic development or community development
Knowledge of employment and training issues relating to persons with disabilities with a spectrum of workforce experience
Knowledge of: trauma exposure and trauma informed care, youth development and adolescent issues, positive youth development, and strength-based approach preferred.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Excellent communications skills, organizational and research abilities
Comfortable working within a collaborative team setting
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
Must possess valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle and proof of automobile insurance
Must pass applicable background tests
Salary – Commensurate with experience Work Schedule – Full Time; Variable Hours
