The Strategic Communications Director will spearhead all communications at NACSA, launch a new organizational communications campaign, and manage a small team of creative and talented individuals.
ABOUT NACSA AND OUR WORK
At the National Association of Charter School Authorizers (NACSA), our goal is to double the number of students in quality charter schools by 2025. To do this we focus on strengthening charter school authorizing – the organizations, people, and policies behind charter schools. If and how well authorizers fulfill their responsibilities directly shapes the quality of public schools available within a community.
That’s why we work with authorizers across the country to develop, implement, and maintain rigorous authorizing practices. We provide trusted, independent policy resources to build state and city foundations where charters can thrive. We conduct research to build a strong evidence-base for key decision-makers. To best utilize our national voice, we are preparing to issue a new call to action for authorizing and the charter community that fosters more diverse, innovative, and equitable charter growth.

ROLE AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the communications team
Oversee a small team of staff and consultants to develop and execute on a communications plan that supports NACSA’s strategic plan goals
Collaborate across the organization to ensure the quality of all external content
Coach and develop team members to grow and achieve
Own and manage NACSA’s brand and voice as a leader of the charter community
Set and guide tone and core messages of all communications
Spearhead a new national communications campaign
Serve as an internal champion for brand and message adherence
Lead and execute day-to-day communications activities
Manage media relations, including cultivating relationships and crafting statements, talking points, and pitches
Oversee and drive the strategy for the release of major publications
Support writing, editing, and design of all NACSA content
The Strategic Communications Director will report to the Vice President of External Relations.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Prior communications and media relations experience—public sector experience preferred
Management experience a plus
Firsthand knowledge of charter schools and/or authorizing experience a plus

NACSA is strongly committed to compensation equity. Our compensation structure for all roles is designed to exceed market medians and ensure that all employees are receiving equitable compensation for the important work they do in service of our mission. The compensation band for this position is $93,000 to $103,000 based on experience.
