Trinity Christian College seeks a regular part-time, 30 hours per week, Academic Support Coordinator for the Office of Learning Services. The Academic Support Coordinator Oversees office functions, coordinates student academic support, and collaborates with staff and faculty members in the provision of academic support.
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:
Oversees office functions: • Schedule test proctoring • Responsible for proctoring tests • Recruits and trains student office workers • Manages payroll for student office workers, tutors and mentors • Assists in process of providing testing services • Organizes and maintains file system, and files correspondence and other records • Greets visitors and conducts to appropriate area or person • Orders and maintains supplies, and arranges for equipment maintenance
Manages student academic support: • Procures, supervises and trains student tutors and mentors • Facilitates matching of tutor and mentor requests with tutors and mentors • Conducts ongoing training/evaluation of tutors and mentors • Procures, trains and oversees student leaders for the Supplemental Instruction Program • Disseminates accommodations plans (via e-mail) and student progress reports for students receiving services • Utilizes independent judgment in managing of academic support system • Coordinates process of providing electronic (text-to-audio) formats of texts for students with disabilities • Oversees academic success workshops, as time permits • Other duties as assigned by Director of OLS
This position also interacts with staff and faculty in order to select student tutors and SI leaders, to request student progress reports for students with accommodations and probationary status and to coordinate testing services for students with accommodations.
A Bachelor’s degree is required. Experience working with students at the college level is preferred. The individual must think critically, evaluate situations, independently determine appropriate course of action, and possess the ability to understand the issues impacting at-risk students. They must also possess the physical/emotional stamina to navigate around campus and to be actively engaged in the counseling and instructing of students. Must also be able to sit at a computer long periods.
Most work is done in the Office of Learning Services in the reception area, working independently and with student employees. Due to the service nature, and hospitable posture of the OLS, there can be a steady stream of visitors. As such, the individual must be able to work well with interruptions. With more students and faculty coming in and out during exam weeks, the office environment is faster paced than usual, but purposefully more quiet in order to maintain a test-taking environment. Time may also be spent in the classroom, and conducting tutoring sessions.
