The role of the Assistant Dean of Students is to organize and implement support for students and families in the areas of behavioral health, attendance, and social-emotional learning. As a member of the Behavioral Health and Restorative Justice teams, the Assistant Dean collaborates with their peers to create interventions and track progress toward set goals that ensure student success.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Foster sound and effective interpersonal relationships among students, teachers, parents and administrators
Manage common areas, passing periods, and entry and exit procedure for all students
Collaborate with counselors, teachers, administrators and other school staff in developing and implementing restorative and proactive practices, including interventions, in and effort to create a safe and positive school culture
Serve on the school’s Behavioral Health and Restorative Justice Teams and overseeing the implementation of students interventions
Ensure Behavioral MTSS processes, protocols, timelines and plans are implemented with fidelity
Collaborate and confer with to develop and follow up on a sequence of interventions for at risk students
Establish and maintain high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, ensuring that the rights of students are upheld
Support the development of systems and programs to support students that struggle with the school’s expectations regarding attendance, behavior and academic achievement
Consult and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs and provide resources to support these different
Provide individual counseling and group counseling to help students cope effectively with personal, social, academic, career and family concerns
Other duties as assigned including but not limited to serving on the Behavioral Health Team, conduct home visits, attend home and away athletic events to ensure student safety and compliance to the SCC, manage morning entry and after school dismissal, monitor and supervise hallways and passing periods, daily participation in the safe passage route after school, etc.
Education and Training:
Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred areas of study: Social Work, School Counseling, Secondary Education
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Google applications, and basic office equipment
Work Related Experience:
2-4 years of work experience in a similar role is preferred.
