The University Y at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks an Executive Director to lead, mentor, and empower a qualified and committed staff and volunteers, as well as a talented array of students, to deepen the current mission and programs of the organization; communicate an inspirational vision for realizing our mission of social justice, environmental protection, interfaith cooperation, and civic and global engagement; sustain, develop and foster strong organizational partnerships within the University and our diverse local and regional community; further develop and implement a fundraising plan that cultivates and builds strong and long term relationships with donors, granters and foundations; manage and invest in the integrity of facilities and other physical assets of the University Y; and work effectively with and leverage the skills of a dedicated Board of Governors and a Board of Trustees.

Under the current retiring Executive Director, the University Y has experienced strong and sustainable growth over the last 10 years in meaningful programming that engages new participants and community members, builds upon our values, and continues to grow activities that follow our mission. Seeking to continue to serve our diverse campus and community, the University Y looks to hire a new Executive Director who will involve a wide variety of participants, especially students, and University faculty and administrators, local government and organizations, volunteers, alumni and donors. The University Y proudly claims an historic function for almost 150 years of playing a creative leadership role within the larger community.
Board leadership and policy--carried out with the Boards of Governors and Trustees
Staff management and development-- direct reports: Associate Directors (2), Director of Development, Business Manager and Program Directors (2) and Coordinators as needed. Overall responsible for management of 19 total staff. All staff management done in concert with board committees and staff members.
Program development, interpretation, and administration - Supervises and assists the Program Director and other staff often working through committees, students and student organizations and others
Financial Development, including membership and fundraising activities
General operations and administration- Supervise and manage operations in cooperation with the Director of Operations and facilities in cooperation with the Associate Directors
Community and other general constituency relations-- develop, evaluate, and interpret
Maintain awareness of the history and historical emphases of the University YMCA and the YMCA movement and a connection with the National YMCA organization, YUSA.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, and preferably a Master's degree or beyond
Ten or more years of experience preferred, showing increasing responsibility as a leader with administrative and operational competencies in strategic planning, finance, administration, development and operations.
Proven ability to do collaborative work with a non-profit board and other volunteers, preferably within a university community.
Experience and track record recruiting, selecting, motivating, supervising, evaluating, supporting and leading a team of professional and support staff who can work with volunteers in fulfilling an organization’s mission.
Evidence of current or prior experience with one or more of the following programming areas: social justice, environmental protection, interfaith cooperation, and civic and global engagement. Experience working with university students is also preferable.
