Why we need you:

At Asian Student Achievement, our content writing intern plays a vital role in supporting our organization's grant writing and marketing. The content writing intern is in charge of creating content for our blog, creating copy for our social media posts in collaboration with the Marketing Coordinator and Operations Manager. The content writer will also be in charge of helping researching and writing applications for grants with the Operations Manager. By assisting with various market-related tasks, the intern contributes directly to the marketing of our programs and initiatives, ultimately enabling us to fulfill our mission of helping Asians and Asian Americans through the pipeline to leadership. We rely on the dedication and expertise of our interns to help us achieve our goals and fulfill our commitment to creating positive change in the community.

1. Fundraising/Grant Writing skills: Interns will gain a deep understanding of how a non-profit applies for grants, how to successfully write applications for grants, and research various grants and foundations and completing the first draft of applications to be edited by the Operations Manager

2. Content Creation: Interns will receive hands-on experience in creating content for long-form blogs and short-form copy for social media and marketing campaigns. Interns will take lead on creating copy under the supervision of the Marketing Coordinator and the Operations Manager. Interns will also be responsible for and expected to brainstorm content ideas to pitch to the Marketing team.

3. Teamwork and Communication: Interns will work closely with experienced finance professionals and other members of the organization (e.g., Operations Manager), providing them with valuable teamwork and communication skills. Additionally, they will learn how to collaborate effectively to achieve common goals.

Overall, interns can apply classroom knowledge to real-world situations, develop practical skills that will benefit them in their future careers, and make a meaningful impact through their work with our organization.

Responsibilities:

• Committing to a minimum of 8 months for the internship with the possibility of extension or promotion

• In collaboration with the Marketing Team, the Content Writing intern will grow our Organization by creating and optimizing content for various channels:

• Writing duties include the following but not limited to: social media captions, newsletters, blogs, grants, website copy 

• Editing and proofreading content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency.

• Using SEO best practices to optimize content for search engines and social media platforms. 

• Assist with research to gather information and data for content creation.

• Assist in the development of content calendars and schedules. 

• Ghost writing for President/CEO and other leadership if need be

• Respond to emails and other communication within 1 business day; ensure that another team member will cover for the intern during busy periods in the intern’s life

• Be prompt and regular with usage of organizational tools we employ at ASA, such as Slack, Google Calendar, Notion, email correspondence, and Google Hangouts

• Other related duties as assigned by the CEO or Operations Manager

• Committing to a minimum of 10 hours per week on assigned tasks

• Working on grant applications with the Operations Manager. Interns will be asked to fill out grant applications under the supervision of the Operations Manager

• Research grants and foundations for grants that ASA can apply for and proactively ask/reach out about such grants.

• Being proactive in promoting ASA coaching and speaking services to universities and more

• Attending meetings and events when needed

• Helping to advertise ASA online and offline

• Being professional in all public, social media, and written communications

• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Requirements:

• Must be proficient in Google Sheets and other Google Suite applications and have a commanding knowledge of Google Sheets formulas.

• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

• Previous finance or accounting experience (preferred but not required)

Non-compete clause: While working for ASA, you cannot work as a volunteer, part-time, or full-time employee with any competing organization or company that offers our business plan.
