ABOUT THE PUBLIC MEDIA BRIDGE FUND
The Public Media Bridge Fund, an initiative of Public Media Company, helps secure local public media service under threat from the loss of federal funding. The Bridge Fund provides targeted financial support, tools, and advisory services and helps ensure vital public service media can continue to inform, engage, and connect local communities.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Public Media Bridge Fund is seeking a Head of Sustainability & Strategic Partnerships to lead station sustainability and collaboration work. This role will serve as a trusted advisor to grantees navigating financial pressure and operational change and drive Bridge Fund programming focused on sustainability strategies, collaborative operating models, and capacity building. The Head of Sustainability & Strategic Partnerships will work closely with the Bridge Fund’s Executive Director and Program Officer, the PMC Consulting Team, and a variety of external partners to deliver high-quality support to stations and facilitate transformational change for the public media system.

Type: Full-time, exempt
Compensation: $125,000 - $175,000 depending on skills and experience

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Station Support & Sustainability
- Partner directly with public media organizations to develop and implement sustainability strategies that reduce costs, enhance operational efficiencies, and grow revenue.
- Provide individual station support and system-wide programming focused on strengthening core business functions — including membership, underwriting, major gifts, governance, leadership and change management, technology, and shared services.
- Design and lead webinars, peer learning sessions, coaching programs, and other capacity-building activities that help stations build more sustainable business models.
- As needed, support stations through Program Related Investment (PRI) loan structuring and due diligence processes.
Collaborative Operating Models
- Help public media organizations explore, structure, and navigate partnerships, mergers, and collaborative operating models.
- Facilitate shared service opportunities and regional and statewide collaborations that reduce costs and improve station efficiency.
- Collaborate with the PMC Consulting Team on projects as needed and appropriate.
Bridge Fund Strategy & Operations
- Maintain a deep knowledge of Bridge Fund programs and be able to communicate priorities and funding strategies to a variety of public media stakeholders.
- Contribute to strategic decisions about new and existing Bridge Fund programs, investments, and initiatives.
- Surface, document, and share best practices and successful innovations across the field through case studies, written reports, and other multimedia formats.
- Provide strategic insights for the development and implementation of special projects.
- As needed, assess grant proposals and applications, contributing substantive expertise to funding decisions and grantee selection.
External Partnerships
- In partnership with PMC and the Bridge Fund, serve as a liaison to national public media organizations.
- Represent the Bridge Fund at industry conferences and events, sharing insights about securing and strengthening public media services.
- Work closely with the Bridge Fund team, external consultants and coaches, and PMC colleagues to ensure a high-quality experience for stations and advance a forward-looking vision for the public media system.
BENEFITS
PMC offers a comprehensive benefits package, including three weeks of paid vacation per year, eight sick days per year, and paid holidays. Vacation and sick leave are prorated based on the employee’s start date.
Employees who decline PMC’s health insurance coverage will receive an additional $250 per month in taxable compensation.

Requirements
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- 15+ years of experience in public media, media consulting, philanthropy, nonprofit management, or a closely related field.
- Deep knowledge of public media station operations, business models, and the financial and structural pressures facing local stations.
- Experience advising organizations on revenue strategy, operational efficiency, and/or organizational change.
- Familiarity with nonprofit mergers, partnerships, or collaborative operating models.
- Strong facilitation and relationship management skills — able to build trust with station leaders and work effectively across a diverse network.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information for varied audiences.
- Comfortable working remotely and independently while staying closely connected to a collaborative team.
- A mission-driven person who cares about the future of public media and shares the Bridge Fund’s values of clarity, transparency, and compassion.
Preferred
- Previous experience leading a local public media station.
- Familiarity with national public media organizations and the broader ecosystem.
