Description
The National Consumers League (NCL) is a national nonprofit organization that has been protecting and promoting social and economic justice for consumers and workers in the United States since 1899. NCL seeks a motivated candidate for the position of Manager of Health Policy to help carry out its health policy program. Reporting to the Senior Director of Health Policy, the Manager of Health Policy will play a key role in advancing NCL’s healthcare advocacy agenda through policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, strategic communications, and campaign management. Areas of focus include advancing healthcare access and affordability, promoting evidence-based health policy, and supporting consumer education initiatives to increase medication adherence and vaccine confidence. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing policies that promote access to affordable, high-quality healthcare.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct policy analysis and draft letters to federal agencies and Congress, advocacy materials, and external communications such as newsletters and blog posts
* Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with consumer and public interest organizations, policymakers, industry representatives, coalition partners, and other healthcare stakeholders to advance shared policy and advocacy goals
* Participate in meetings with congressional offices, federal agencies, and coalition partners
* Represent NCL at external events and in speaking engagements; occasionally attend evening events
* Track federal agency and Congressional activity
* Organize NCL’s Health Advisory Council semi-annual meetings and quarterly newsletters
* Lead the coordination of NCL’s Script Your Future Medication Adherence Team Challenge and public awareness campaign
* Assist the Senior Director of Health Policy in managing the work of interns
Requirements
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree
* At least 3-5 years of experience working on healthcare policy, such as on Capitol Hill, at a federal agency, think tank, or progressive public interest organization
* Superb oral and written communication skills
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with external stakeholders
* A self-starter with strong project management skills, demonstrated ability to take initiative and project ownership, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
* Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, reliability and follow-through, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
* A demonstrated commitment to improving public health and health equity
